    Gokomere CPS scoop Mayor’s Junior Trophy


    MASVINGO - Gokomere central Primary School pulled off a huge upset to clinch the 2017 Mayor's junior tournament after humiliating the resilient Don Bosco 1-0 at Mucheke stadium on Friday last week.
    Gokomere qualified for the finals after beating Vurombo 4-1 in a penalty shoot-out in the semi-finals. Gokomere pocketed $400, floating trophy, soccer kit and gold medals and Don Bosco clinched second place and went home with $200, trophy and silver medals.
    Vurombo clinched 3rd position following their victory over Rujeko with a comprehensive 2-0 and went home $100 richer with bronze medals as well.
    Gokomere coach Hwede Francis was very excited to win the trophy for the first time.
     "The games were very tough especially the final, but I am very excited for the young boys as they played according to instructions to slay resilient Don bosco in the finals. I believe that we are now a soccer powerhouse," said Mabika.
    "I want to thank our Mayor and sponsors and the organizing team as well for their crucial support" he added.
    The tournament was launched this year and is sponsored by Auto-Bavaria.
