MVUMA - A 15-year-old girl from Mvuma has run away from home allegedly because her father is always demanding to watch her bathing naked.
The girl has since appeared in court facing allegations of stealing $360 from her father which she said she wanted to use to buy utensils and start a new life away from home.
The juvenile pleaded guilty to the charge and magistrate Tawengwa Chibanda postponed her sentence for five years because she is under age.
The girl who stays at Village 2B Chishuku said apart from demanding to watch her bathing, her father Ernest Rufu (47) also wants to be there each time she is changing clothes or dressing up and she added that her mother was aware of the abuse.
"I stole the money and ran away from home because I wanted to use it to start a new life somewhere. My father insists on standing in front of me while I am bathing naked. He also wants to be present whenever I am dressing up," said the girl.
She also told the magistrate that her elder sister ran away from home because of their father's behavior.
Prosecutor Michael Kazomba told the court that on July 6 this year at around 3pm, the accused took $360 from his father's bedroom in a small tin under the bed and ran away.
The complainant noticed that the money was missing but the whereabouts of the accused were not known.
The complainant suspected that she went to her boyfriend's place in Harare. The matter was reported at Southlea Park Police station leading to the arrest of the accused and property valued at $142 which are proceeds of the stolen money was recovered from the accused's boyfriend's residence.
