    Victoria Ranch consortium completes 2200 housing units

    MASVINGO – The Remainder of Victoria Ranch Housing Consortium in Masvingo has proved to be a cut above the rest after completion of 2 200 housing units in less than two years said the chairman Wellington Mahwende who is also the director of December 12 housing scheme. The members of the consortium include Zimbabwe National Army, Teachers Union of Zimbabwe and December 12.
    "The consortium has also managed to purchase 80% of the water pipes needed for households to be connected to the main pipe of the City Council and council have since connected some of the houses. Trenching for sewer reticulation in some areas is at an advanced stage and laying of pipes will be completed very soon," said Mahwende.
    The construction of culverts and main roads with gravel has been completed for the easy movement of construction vehicles. 
    The project in the Remainder of Victoria Range has come as a big relief to the youth of Masvingo as many of them have found themselves employed in various capacities and the consortium has also constructed a market place where the community can engage in income generating projects in an orderly way.
    Mahwende added that installation of electricity is underway and some of the houses have already been connected and transformers have been purchased with some still coming.
     "I want to thank His Excellency President Robert Mugabe for giving us this land thereby empowering us through the Governemnt's programme of ZimAsset under the social cluster of provision of housing for all.
     "I am also happy for some of our members have started occupying their houses under the self-finance scheme," said Mahwende
