CHIVHU – An employee with the Department of Veterinary Services in Chivhu has lost a $4 000 lawsuit she instituted against her employer who she accused of malicious prosecution following accusations of fraud.
Nancy Chifamba who is employed by the Ministry of Agriculture at Chivhu sued Dr Tafadzwa Mashawi who is the Veterinary Officer there for reporting her to the Police on allegations that she was a suspect in the case of missing rabies vaccines.
Chifamba also sued Felix Zhakata for $1 000 for reporting the matter of the missing vaccines to Mashawi. Zhakata had received an anonymous call that Chifamba had sold the missing vaccines and he in turn told Mashawi. However, Chifamba felt that the case had tarnished her image and it was malicious prosecution, abuse of legal proceedings and malicious accusations that caused pain to her.
However, Magistrate Henry Sande ruled out that Mashawi had acted within his job as he was required by law to report cases of theft at his workplace.
It was also considered that there was actual theft of the 30 doses of rabies vaccines of which 16 were recovered and a report was made to the Police.
