Zanu PF Central Committee member acquitted of rape charges

GWERU – Zanu PF Central Committee Member Saviyasi Piki (46) who has recently appeared in court charged of raping his sister-in-law has been cleared of the crime by a Gweru magistrate.
Piki's 18-year-old sister-in-law alleged that the Midlands Province politician raped her on several occasions. She also said she could prove the case in court because Piki has a circumcised organ.
Regional Magistrate Morgan Nemadire however acquitted Piki on the basis that the rape case took long to be filed and the evidence was too sketchy.
He also said that the rape case was reported after the complainant had misused her sister's phone and was therefore in trouble. The courts considered the fact that if it was not for the misused phone the matter may not have been reported.
The court also considered that the complainant did not report the case even after her boyfriend encouraged her to.crime news
