    Gutu Magistrate slaps man with 10 years for stock theft

    GUTU – Gutu Magistrate Edwin Marecha has jailed a man who stole and slaughtered a beast with 10 years in jail after convicting him of stock theft.
    The accused was caught by a Policeman in Chivhu while ferrying bucketfuls of meat to Harare where he wanted to sell the delicacy.
    Shepherd Mufudze Madhende (20) who is from Buhera stole a heifer belonging to Lawrence Nenguva of Eastdale Range in Chatsworth.
    It is the State case that on February 23, 2017 Shepherd Madhende of Madhende Village under Chief Makumbe set a snare along Chivake River and caught a heifer which belonged to Nenguva.
    He slaughtered the heifer, loaded the meat into three buckets and threw away the head and legs into Chivake River.
    He proceeded to Chivhu en-route to Harare where he wanted to sell the meat. Police Constable Musuru who had received a tip-off managed to arrest Madhende in Chivhu. The value of the heifer was $350 and 46kg of the meat was recovered which was equivalent to $230.
    Madhende was slapped with 13 years imprisonment and two years were suspended on condition he doesn't commit a similar offence in the next five years while one year was suspended because part of the value of the beast was recovered.
