    Police impostor steals car from Gutu, caught in Harare


    GUTU – A former cop allegedly hijacked a vehicle using a Police uniform at Mpandawana in Gutu recently and the car was recovered in Tynwald in Harare.
    The impostor was sold out by his mobile phone that he left with the owner of the car that had no sim card.
    Collin Chipetu (26) of Tynwald, Harare appeared before Gutu Magistrate Edwin Marecha recently, facing a charge of stealing a motor vehicle.
    The State alleges that on December 6, 2016 Chipetu who was in Police uniform approached Steven Sheshe at Gutu Bus Terminus and pretended to hire his vehicle a Toyota FunCargo. He allegedly lied to Sheshe that he wanted to pass through Gutu Police Station to knock off and he was driven to the station.
    Upon arrival at the station`s main gate, he gave Sheshe a Nokia cellphone and told him to go and hand it to a certain police officer inside the station.
    While Sheshe was still inside the station Chipetu allegedly drove off.
    With only the Nokia handset which had no simcard and even contacts detectives from Gutu ransacked the handset and managed to get Chipetu`s phone number which led to his arrest at his residence in Tynwald leading to the recovery of the vehicle.
    Magistrate Marecha remanded Chipetu in custody as detectives make further investigations.
