Madyangove Primary haggles over new bus

CHIVI - There are mixed feelings at Madyangove Primary School in Chivi over whether to buy a $139 000 bus for pupils' or suspend the project until the poor economic situation facing the country subsides.
Parents who spoke to The Mirror said there has been a resolution for them to pay $10 a term per child for the next three years so that the school can procure its first ever bus to be used to transport children on academic and sports trips.
They added that they cannot afford the amount considering that they were paying $25 fees per term and the economic environment was also harsh.
Madyangove head Godfrey Nhovoro said this was just still a proposal which was discussed by the School Development Committee (SDC) last week and can either be accepted or be rejected.
Parents who spoke on condition of anonymity vehemently stated that they cannot afford the bus.
"As parents we say it is a good thing that we buy a bus but we cannot afford it. Life is tough for us in the rural areas. We are not employed and we are not harvesting anything from the fields because of continuous droughts.
"We are also sceptical about the leadership of the SDC because the chairperson, Selina Chikwanda is an ECD  teacher at the school and it is obvious that she is an interested part and she would support the buying of the bus," said one of the parents.
They also argued that the SDC should have started with renovations of buildings in the school before buying a bus.
Ward 30 councillor Ephraim Masacha said buying a bus was a good idea. He said parents did not oppose the proposal during the meeting and this was as good as accepting the proposal.
Another parent who is a nurse at Chivi growth point Judith Chivaraidze said the buying of that bus is a good idea since it will benefit the children.education news
