    ‘I believe in grabbing opportunities’

BIKITA – Zanu PF candidate for Bikita West by-elections, Beauty Chabaya is a businesswoman of note.
She has contracts with large companies like ZETDC, City of Harare, Mica Hardware and FABS Hardware and other Mining Companies where she supplies Industrial protective clothing.
She had a chat with The Mirror last week and revealed that the man she now wants to replace as MP, Munyaradzi Kereke is actually her friend.
Chabaya says she didn't get into politics by accident and neither should she be ranked as an outsider to the Bikita West Parliamentary seat.
Chabaya was born to two prominent politicians who dominated Bikita politics for many years. Her father Adam was a councillor for Ward 29 in Bikita for a total of 20 years while her mother Cecelia as the Masvingo Provincial  Executive member for 30 years.
Beauty herself is the provincial secretary for economic affairs in the party
The underdog tag that many gave her during the Zanu PF primaries last month was therefore actually misplaced, according to her. She says that the underdog tag also played to her advantage as her rivals were overconfident and barely looked at her. Chabaya played the David and Goliath when he beat Zanu PF big guns in the primaries like Retired General Gibson Mashingaidze and Elias Musakwa.
She polled 1 423 votes, her closet rival Musakwa polled 540 and General Mashingaidze only managed 212 votes in an election the other contestants described as rigged.
Chabaya said she virtually camped in Bikita from her base in Harare where she runs her businesses.
Come election day she trounced seven other candidates hands down to land the ticket to represent Zanu PF on January 21, 2017.
The 42-year-old politician was born in a family of four girls and five boys. She grew up in Bikita and went to Gokomere for her primary education and proceeded to Silveria Mission for her secondary education.
After completing her secondary education she enrolled at the Harare Polytechnic for a course in accounting.
Soon after graduating, Chabaya did not waste time from page 4
as she quickly joined the world of business after receiving capital from Delta Corporation through its initiative called Start-up and Go and established a company which manufactures protective clothing.
The company is based in Msasa and one of its biggest clients is Zesa Holdings where she supplies protective clothing.
She is also into retail business and she runs a number of bottle stores in and around Harare.
"I believe in grabbing opportunities as a result when Delta came up with the idea of giving start-up capital to young entrepreneurs I did not think twice and went for it. When my friend Kereke was given a jail sentence I said to myself I will contest for the seat and the rest is history," said the ever smiling Chabaya in an interview.
Chabaya says she draws her inspiration from her mother and her father.
"Naturally I was a politician from birth because I was born in a family of politicians. These two initiated me into the Zanu PF structures from a very young age," added Chabaya with a chuckle.
Asked on her secret to winning the primary elections, Chabaya said she worked closely with the youths by giving them advice on how to start their own income generating projects.
"I campaigned among the youth while my competitors took things for granted and had written me off.
"I am confident of winning this seat for Zanu PF because my campaign strategy is intact and I am already on the ground.
Chabaya also said with her links and connections she has the capacity to turn around the fortunes of Bikita West communities.
"I have a lot of business connections and with that I will be able to attract investors and donors who will help in the uplifting of lives in the constituency so naturally I am the best candidate for the seat," she said.
