MP Chiwa in court for assaulting army captain

CHIREDZI – Chiredzi West MP Darlington Chiwa appeared in court on Monday facing a charge of assaulting Army Captain Faster Gono during a commotion in Triangle last year.
Initially the State raised criminal defamation charges against Chiwa after Gono accused the former of calling him a gay, a charge which Charles Ndlovu of Ndlovu and Hwacha who is representing Chiwa challenged saying the charge was repelled by the Supreme Court.
Chiwa appeared before Chiredzi Magistrate Geraldine Mutsoto. The State alleges that sometime in October 2015 while at a Zanu PF meeting at Kamba Primary School a dispute arose between different factions over the way how Zanu PF party structures were going to hold elections. The State alleges that during that commotion Chiwa assaulted Gono by pointing his finger at the forehead and mouth which inflicted pain and degraded his dignity.
