    MP Chimedza scouts for soccer talent for export to the UK


    GUTU SOUTH - Chitenderano Primary School in Gutu South under Chief Maungwa scooped a double when they won the netball and soccer trophy at the inaugural Dr Paul Chimedza tournament held at Maungwa High School in Gutu last Friday.
    Dr Chimedza who is the MP for the area sponsored the primary schools tournament and the winners walked away with $100, a kit and a floating trophy.
     Chitenderano Primary soccer team beat Nerupiri Primary in the finals 4-3 on penalties after the teams played thrilling nil all in regulation time. This is the same scoreline that they had when they met during the group stages while the netball team thrashed the same opponents 7-1.
    Dr Chimedza said the 18 team tournament was meant to identify talent from the area for export to foreign lands like England.
     "My aim for hosting this tournament is to see someone from Gutu South playing in the English Premier League just like Peter Ndlovu and other African stars," said Dr Chimedza.
    The eight football teams and eight netball teams that participated in the tournament had emerged as winners from their respective zones the previous week and were given jerseys which they used in the finals.
    Brito Chinorura was adjudged the player of the tournament in recognition of the passing skills he displayed during the finals and for that he received a trophy.
    Chininga Primary School beat Muchada Primary School 2-0 for the third position in the soccer competitions.
    Tafadzwa Mudhuswa won best player in netball and walked away with a trophy as well.
    Gutu south Naph chairperson Tarirai Mutambasere heaped praises on  Dr Chimedza for hosting the event for the first time.
    "I want to thank Dr Chimedza for remembering us with such a precious event and I wish that one day he will provide us with more trophies," said Mutambasere.
    Also present was Chief Maungwa who was happy with Dr Chimedza.
    "This is what we call a leader, Dr Chimedza is a true leader because he is doing what he was elected to do and as for me ndomukudza nokuti munhu wevanhu," said Chief Maungwa.
