Mberengwa guard in court for killing ‘poacher’

MBERENGWA - A 33-year-old security detail has been hauled before Mberengwa Magistrate's court facing murder charges after he shot dead a suspected poacher at Midlands Ranch Farm.
Tanaka Shiri of Mhloro village under Chief Mazvihwa who is employed as a security officer at Special Services Security Company appeared before Mberengwa magistrate Sengster Tavengwa facing murder charges as defined in section 9;33 of the Criminal law Codification law and Reform Act.
It is the State case that on Sunday at around 11pm Shiri was on duty at Midlands Ranch Farm owned by farmer Andrew Knot. He was with a colleague Tinonetsa Mashaura when the trio passed by their base carrying game meat.
An altercation erupted between Shiri and the trio over how they got the meat.
Shiri is alleged to have pointed a 303 rifle gun serial number 11115 loaded with a magazine 5 round bullets to the deceased who is still yet to be identified.
The deceased then attempted to push away the barrel of the gun. This led Shiri to pull the trigger and shot the deceased once on the right side of the chest and died on the spot.
After realising that Shiri had shot their colleague, the other two men fled into the dark and are still at large.
Shiri has been initially remanded to 10 November 2016.
