Steward Muhenyeri was sentenced by Magistrate Langton Ndokera and two years of the sentence were suspended on condition he does not commit a similar crime.
Muhenyeri pleaded not guilty but the State said on April 16, 2016, he attempted to kill Knowledge Mbofana, a secondary school teacher at Mukoroverwa Secondary School with a steel dropper.
The reasons why he acted in such a manner were not clear to the court.
Muhenyeri visited Mbofana's homestead at Mukoverwa Primary School late in the night. He found Mbofana and his brother, Trymore Mahenyeri already retired to bed.
He sneaked into the bedroom, lit his cell phone and flashed it into the eyes of Mbofana who was asleep and the intensity of the light dazzled the complainant and the accused started hitting the complaint with the iron bar all over.
He only stopped the assault when he heard some footsteps. He went outside, dropped the steel dropper and disappeared into the darkness.
The matter was reported to the Police. A medical report was taken and it showed that Mbofana sustained severe injuries, deep scalp lacerations exposing skull bone and another deep laceration close to the right eye.
Ndokera found Mahenyeri guilty as presented by the complainant and the witnesses before hand.
