    Gwanda TC slashes tariffs

GWANDA – Gwanda Town Council has reduced some tariffs for the 2017 budget after realising that residents could not afford them and in some cases the tariffs were higher than many towns.
Council rates for the high density suburbs have been reduced from $20,82 to $14,36
Refuse charge has been dropped from $9.20 to $4, public lightning was slashed from $2 to $1 and postage levy has been scrapped off completely.
Gwanda Mayor Knowlegde Ndlovu said the reductions were meant to benefit residents.
"As council we decided to look at these charges and reduce them with a few dollars. We took note of the complaints by residents during consultative meetings that the tariffs were too high," he said.
As for the low density the residents will now pay $34,50 instead of $38.60 for rates and refuse will drop from $13,80 to $10,00 while postage was totally removed.
However the water fixed charge remains at $5 as well as the supplementary charges remain at $3.
The chairman of Finance and Licensing committee Clr Johane Ncube echoed the sentiments made by Mayor.business news
