Bikita woman dumps baby by tethering it to a tree

BIKITA - A Bikita woman who felt that her baby stood between her and a good marriage or a job dumped the baby by tying the infant's leg and then tethering it to a tree.
Sinikiwe Sibanda (21) of Mugova village under Chief Mkanganwi was found guilty of baby dumping by Bikita Magistrate, Caroline  Tafira who slapped her with six months imprisonment  without an  option  for community  service because the accused is of no fixed abode.
Sibanda who was desperate to get a job and to get married  felt her baby whom she described as stressful stood between her and her ambitions.
Sibanda dumped her baby Regina Mutingwende(52)'s homestead who resides in the same village as herself.
It is the State case that on November 14, 2016 at around 730pm the informant was proceeding to her homestead and upon arrival she found the baby crying while tied by the leg to a tree with a handbag sling.
The informant called her family who helped her untie the baby. The informant then identified the baby since she knew the baby prior to the offence.
The State alleges that the accused once came to the informant's house seeking medication for the baby and told the informant that she wanted to kill the baby because she wanted to get a job and get married.
    Richard Nyamuwomba prosecuted.
