Warriors in Afcon group of death

MASVINGO – The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) draw took place on October 19, 2016 in Libreville, Gabon with the tournament kicking off on January 14.
Zimbabwe will be looking to carry their fine form from the qualifiers as they were pooled in what may be named the group of death.
Zimbabwe was in Pot B the lowest ranked pot at the draw, along with Togo, Uganda and Guinea Bissau basing on the performance from the previous tournament whom they could not be in the same group with.
The Warriors were then placed in group B along with Algeria the 2nd place team in the continent, Senegal the 3rd ranked team in Africa and Tunisia the 4th in Africa whilst Zimbabwe is the 31st placed team in Africa.
Zimbabwe who will be making their 3rd appearance at Afcon will be carrying the underdog tag since they are the lowest ranked team compared to its counterparts.
Libreville, Franceville, Oyem and Port-Gentii will be hosting the Afcon matches with Zimbabwe playing their matches in Franceville.
Zimbabwe will kick start their Afcon campaign on the 15th of January against Algeria driven by the stylish English Premier League player of the year Rihard Mahrez, whilst four days later they take on Senegal and the last match of their group on 23 January against Tunisia.
Two best teams from the group will advance to the quarter finals of the tournament with Zimbabwe looking to make it to the quarter finals for the first time in history while the other two will be packing bags back home.
Group A: Gabon, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Guinea Bissau
Group B: Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Zimbabwe
