GWANDA - Shabani FC supporters were sent into wild celebrations as the team clinched the Division One Central Region Soccer League (CRSL) title with a game to spare when they shrugged off stiff resistance from bitter cross town rivals FC PlatinumU19 whom they beat by a solitary goal in the reverse fixture last Saturday.
However, the CRSL winners' celebrations will have to wait a bit longer as ZIFA is yet to solve the impasse on play-offs. ZIFA councilors last month made a shocking resolution to relegate four teams from PSL in total disregard to last year's agreement to drop two teams from and engage the regional winners in play offs.
Should the resolution stand Chinda Boys is set to battle it out with three other regional winners. However, CRSL stands to lose more in as two affected PSL teams Chapungu and confirmed Division One bound Border Strikers are all in the CRSL.
Meanwhile, as Shabani FC were celebrating their dramatic win of the  league it was not the same for a Police outfit ZRP Beitbridge FC who were served with a suspension letter by CRSL.
In a letter addressed to the Club Secretary and copied to all CRSL Clubs, the Regional Administrator Gift Nyapomwe said the Beitbridge based outfit has been suspended from taking part in any league competitions effective 5 November 2016 following its failure to fulfill three sanctioned league fixtures. The suspension has been received with mixed feelings by affiliate clubs who have come out guns blazing to the CRSL. Clubs feel the return of the team after voluntary pulling out of the league following the massive transfers that hit Police officers stationed in Beitbridge was there for a purpose.
The executive wrote to CRSL their intention that they were pulling out of the league as most of the players and officials were affected by the transfers. However, the incoming officials reversed the decision resulting in the club being readmitted back into the league.
The return was marred by a lot of criticism as the club only fulfilled home matches travelling away only once to Blanket Mine. This was not well received by clubs who felt the team was on an undisclosed mission. The most vociferous clubs were Ivan Hoe and Tongogara that challenged the readmission of the club.
The decision to suspend ZRP Beitridge meant that their two fixtures in week 29 and 30 against former premier league side Whawha FC and fellow policemen ZRP Gwanda FC respectively are going to be awarded on a 3:0 score line. sport news
