    LDS avails 150K Euros to Beitbridge child headed families


    BEITBRIDGE- Germany based Diacony Catastrophen Emergency Aid through its local partners Lutheran Development Services has donated 150 000 Euros for 300 child headed families in Beitbridge rural recently.
    Ulibile Gwate the LDS programmes manager confirmed the development to The Mirror where he said the paperwork has been done and they are just awaiting for the funds to reflect in their account.
    "The programme is going to start immediately as the money is transferred into the organisation's accounts.
    Operations are set for Shabwe in ward 15 and Chitulapasi in ward 1 of Beitbridge rural where each ward will have gardens, boreholes, solar systems and network pipelines for the gardens," said Gwate.
    The core aim of the programme is to promote independence within child headed families.
    The Beitbridge Rural District Council chief executive officer Peter Moyo has applauded the organisation for its assistance to the vulnerable.
    "This is a positive development by the LDS for the community which is in line with the social sector cluster of ZIMASSET," said Moyo.
    He also encouraged other Non-Governmental Organisations to complement Government efforts in providing food to the less privileged in the society.
    A total of $37 837 will be allocated towards the installation of solar systems, purchasing of pipe networks and construction of boreholes said Gwate.
    He also said the construction of a garden will require one hectare of net wire, one role of barbed wire, 80 gum poles, 16 corner posts, two squat holes for toilets, 10 hoes and shovels, two neck sack sprayers, a rain gauge, 10 wheel barrows, 10 picks and a single gate, which will cost $40 500.
    There will be four workshops by professional from the social welfare department to train children on their basic rights and complaints procedure.
    Apart from this project, LDS has managed to rehabilitate 12 boreholes and assisted more than 140 children in ward 1 to acquire birth certificates which is one of the main thrust of the organisation.
    They have built a classroom block at Nuli Primary School and helped in the establishment of  Takuwan Vafumakadzi community project in Lutumba.news
