Chiredzi Hospital struggling to feed 2 dumped babies

CHIREDZI – Officials at Chiredzi Hospital are appealing for donations towards the upkeep of two babies found dumped near the hospital a few days after their birth.
One of the children was picked near the hospital while the other was picked in Tshovani.
Their mothers left them some few hours after birth and one had a placenta still intact. Well wishers brought them to the hospital for safekeeping where they are being kept at the Children`s Ward.
Masvingo Provincial Medical Director Amadeous Shamhu said he was not aware of such an incident.
However, hospital officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the hospital is keeping two babies, a girl and a boy.
They said the hospital is struggling to feed the kids since they need milk and other foods on a daily basis. They also said there are well-wishers who are extending assistance to them in drips and drabs but it is not enough.
"We are keeping two kids at the hospital who were picked after their mothers dumped them. They are being kept at the Children`s Ward but the challenge we are having is of their upkeep in terms of food since they need milk which is a bit expensive. We are receiving assistance here and there from well-wishers but the assistance is not enough.
"The kids are in good health and we don't know why their mothers dumped them. We are appealing to well-wishers, individuals or organisations for assistance so that we can keep these kids," said one official.
