Muzenda family in golf development programme for Masvingo

    - The Muzenda family has embarked on a massive junior golf development programme where they will be donating full kits to schools in the province every year During the Simon V Muzenda Memorial Golf Championship.
This was said by Captain Vitalis V Muzenda son to the late national hero and Vice President Dr Simon V Muzenda at the second edition of the memorial golf tourney in Masvingo last Saturday at the handover ceremony for golf kits.
"We have deliberately decided to support golf at the grassroots level because the future of the sport is in the young people.
"If they don't gain the skills now the sport may die a natural death as people lose interest because of lack of succession," said Cpt Muzenda.
Maud Muzenda widow to the 'Soul of the Nation' as Muzenda was affectionately known in both political and social circles graced the occasion and handed over the kits to the schools on behalf of the family.
St Don Bosco Primary in Mucheke which received three golf kits last year during the inaugural championship had seven more kits added to make them 10.
Victoria Primary was handed over three kits for a start and will receive more next year during the memorial golf championship.
Mucheke and Victoria High Schools have been identified as the next recipients of the Muzenda family gesture.
Raymond Mapamba Victoria Junior sports director who received the kits on behalf of the school praised the family for the initiative.
"We are very grateful to the Muzenda family for thedonation which I believe will go a long way in raising the status of golf in schools and in particular at Victoria Junior where our juniors are doing quite well.
"I am appealing for the corporate world in Masvingo to also come on board and assist in the development of the sport instead of just waiting for the annual event.
"Nyasha Dziove (12), Cashington Marira (12) and Tatenda all from Victoria Junior have done very well in golf tournaments that they have participated in this year with Dziove a rising star winning the dental competition and recently Zvishavane junior open he walked away with a trophy and with this donation we promise to scale greater heights," said Mapamba.
"We want to thank the Muzenda family for continuing their late father's legacy. The family has assisted DonBosco School and Victoria Junior.. We hope that with the kind of enthusiasm the school has shown, the kits will always be put to good use," said Mudzikisi.
Modester Muzenda, Chikwerete Muzenda children to the national hero, Nelly Muzenda Cpt Muzenda's wife, his daughter Svodai his first born Simon Vengai accompanied by his wife Tariro and son Simon also graced the occasion in solidarity with their grandmother.
