    Masvingo Golf Club appeals for council assistance


    MASVINGO - The president of Masvingo Province Golf Union (MPGU) Setfree Mapuvire has appealed to the City Council to assist by providing free bulk raw water for irrigating the golf course.
    Mapuvire made the passionate appeal during the prize giving ceremony at the …th Edward Makovah Memorial Golf Tournament which was held on Sunday at the Masvingo Sports Club.
    "I would like to appeal to the Council to assist us in repairing the pump in the golf course and provision of free raw water from Shakashe River in order to reduce the costs of running the golf course.
    Masvingo golf course is the most expensive in the province because we buy everything yet the facility is for the Council and we are running it on their behalf," said Mapuvire in his speech.
    He also thanked the sponsors for their consistence in hosting the tournament every year despite the harsh economic times prevailing in the country.
    Masvingo Mayor Cllr Hubert Fidze who was present said he will take up the matter and promised that something will be done to assist the club.
    "I will take up the matter with my council and see how we can assist especially in the provision of raw water and the repairing of the pump which has been down for some time now," said Cllr Fidze to a loud applause from the golfers.
    Meanwhile, Murambwi Trust which is run by the Makova family donated the proceeds of the two day golf tournament to Kapota School of the Blind, Mucheke High for school fees payment and the Mayor's Christmas Cheer Fund.
    Cllr Fidze received the money and thanked the family for always remembering the less prividged of society just like the late Edward Makovah would do.
    Jacquiline Makova, Farai Makova, Melody Giya and Blaze the sales and marketing from PetromocExor and the family also graced the occasion from Harare.

    Played over 2 days 22 and 23 October and dominated by Ambela Gopal, 36 holes on completion in which 30 players took part in this year's event compared to 32 last year.
    There was only one lady who participated in the two day event, Rumbidzai Mabhiza from Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services.
    There were 4 players from Harare , 1 from Gweru, 4 from Zvishavane and the rest where local players. 3 Divions were set as follows : Championship Division was 0 handicap to 12 handicap, A-Division 13 handicap to 18 handicap, B-Division 19 handicap to 36 handicap. The tournament Convener was Mafira Makusha who is the MPGU secretary.

    Most golf for the event went on to Tafadzwa Mujuru on 222 nett for 2 days.
