GZU lecturer dies in car crash

    - Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) education lecturer, Theresia Mdhongwa (43) has died.
She died at Milpark Trauma Hospital in South Africa on Tuesday after she was involved in a fatal accident near Gokomere while driving from Masvingo to Harare where she was to welcome her husband Sifundiswa Mdhongwa who was arriving from Liberia where he works as a telecoms engineer.
She spent two weeks in hospital before she died.
"My wife suffered severe injuries after the accident. She was on her way to welcome me after I arrived from Liberia at around 1am," said Mdhongwa s husband.
Sources said that she was driving behind a South African registered car which had a swerving trailer.  The trailer hit Mdhongwa's rear view mirror and she lost control of the car resulting in the accident.
Mdhongwa was rushed to Masvingo General Hospital at around 9am on September 9, 2016 where she was referred to Harare. It is said that she was so much in pain that all she could say out was her husband's name.
She was ferried by Mars from Harare to Johannesburg.
Mdhongwa went through an operation to remove excessive blood clots in the brain but that could not save her. Doctors discharged her after they said they cannot do anything on the late's swollen brain.
"I cannot say much but only that my wife was my pillar and I am finding it difficult to cope with the situation without her. She was a good partner. I need time to cope. This is just too much," said Mdhongwa with tears in his eyes. Mdhongwa had one child, Thandolwenkosi.
She was buried at Luveve Old Cemetry in Bulawayo on September 23, 2016.
