    Gwanda RDC proposes $3 million budget

    • $12 000 set aside for councillors laptops


    GWANDA - Gwanda Rural District Council has proposed a US$2,3 million budget for 2017 and of that US$12 000 will be used to purchase 24 laptops for councillors.
    This was revealed at a 2017 budget consultation meeting held in the mining town last week.
    It was noted that it was important for councillors to move with the times hence the laptops budget allocation. It was also argued that, councillors as community leaders will inspire those in their wards to emulate them and embrace information technology gadgets.
    Gwanda RDC CEO, Ronnie Sibanda the consultations were meant to ensure that residents' views were incorporated in the budget.
    "We want to move with technology, nowadays internet access is available almost in every corner of our country and we think communicating through email is better than sending letters. Laptops will make it easy for our councillors to keep our files and minutes. Well it's yet to be finalised as it is still under discussion," he said.
    On the other hand Council proposed to maintain the 2016 levies, tax fees and licences in 2017.
    "We propose to maintain levies, tax fees and licences at the same level in 2017 and council is appealing to everyone to pay their obligations so that the Council can operate smoothly. So far we have collected only 45% of our 2016 revenue and yet we are already in the last quarter," said Sibanda.
    The US$2,3m budget is spilt between Manpower budget of US$496 000, general expenses US$901 600, repairs 68 600, maintenance US$465 600 and capital expenditure US$388 200.business news
