    Gwanda High sporting excellence acknowledged

    GWANDA – The sporting excellence of Gwanda High was recognised at the school's prize giving day when it was noted that its volleyball team was a powerhouse that made it to the national finals.

    The icing on the cake was the selection of one of the school team players, Nkosiyavuma Ndlovu into Zimbabwe Schools Team to represent the country in the  that were held in Gaborone Botswana in August this year.
    The school hosted its speech and prize giving recently under the theme, 'The New Curriculum: Progressive Possibilities.'

    Speaking at the event Auther Maphosa who is the school head said, November 2014 set the tone for the total overhaul of the education system.
    "The progressive possibilities of the new curriculum means that the school should adopt the concept of inclusivity boasting of special education where students specialise in skills training to lift their confidence, competencies and competitive in society-which is critical to achieving quality and relevant education for all. As a school we then should be able to learn, unlearn and relearn," he said.

    He urged pupils to learn computers so that they can adjust into the technological world.
    Gwanda High has 1013 students making it the biggest secondary school in Matabeleland South in terms of enrolment.
    Maphosa said, "We are proud of our school because the different talents that we nurture. Our volley ball team has confronted all critics beating all and sundry to represent the province in the national finals in the under 17 category. But the icing on the cake was the selection of Nkosiyavuma Ndlovu into Zimbabwe Schools Team to represent the country in the COSSASA ball games that were held in Gaborone Botswana from August 20-27, 2016,' he added.
    Maphosa thanked parents, pupils as well as his staff team.sport news
