Zanu PF councillor suspended over corruption in Gwanda

    - Zanu-PF Ward 9 councillor, Thulani Moyo has been suspended as the chairperson of the housing committee on allegations of being involved in corrupt deals.
This is according to full council minutes of August 31, 2016.
The suspension letter which is dated July 13 was signed by the Mayor, Knowledge Ndlovu.
A full council meeting held last Wednesday saw councillors protesting Moyo's presence on the grounds that he was a suspended councillor.
It is understood that Moyo was suspended after an audit carried out in May 2016 which alleged that council lost thousands of dollars when the former got unsanctioned stands in Doefontein Township and sold them .
The Mayor said following the audit it was recommended that action be taken against Moyo.
The audit revealed that the housing department supplied incorrect information by claiming that stand number 6550 and 6447 were vacant whilst councillor Moyo who happens to be Chairperson of the housing committee had sold them.
"As a councillor you are only allowed to buy one stand at 60% discount but the two stands were allocated to Councillor Moyo and the Municipality lost $4808.  Evidence produced in the meeting to the effect that he went on to sale the two stands for $8000," council minutes read.
When contacted for a comment Moyo denied knowledge of the matter.
"I don't know anything, I'm sure whoever told you gave you full details," said Moyo.
The auditors recommended that the Mayor as well as the Town Clerk Priscilla Nkala takes appropriate action against the Moyo and Mdlongwa, hence leading to Moyo's suspension.local news
