ZAKA - Social soccer outfit Musiso FC has won the inaugural circumcision gala in Zaka Central held at Rudhanda High School last Thursday after beating ZRP FC 4-3 in a penalty shoot-outs.
The 16 team soccer tournament was sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Child Care in conjunction with Zimbabwe Association of Church Related Hospitals (ZACRH) whose main objective was to encourage members of the public to participate in male circumcision as a way of curbing the spread of HIV and AIDS.
Msiso was unbeaten in all its games played on the day.
Musiso head coach Joseph Mundau was very excited to bag the trophy and said he was very proud of his team with the maturity and discipline shown by his team.
"My team has shown maturity and discipline that I never expected. Our community has great passion for soccer and we are appealing to well-wishers for sponsorship so that we can fulfil our dreams." Said Mundau.
Addressing the gathering Munyaradzi Taziva, ZARCH representative said one of the games' mission was to educate members of the public on how to prevent cervical cancer and sexually transmitted diseases.
"We are holding these games today so as to encourage people to value their health through sports, we encourage you to get circumcised and to try by any means to prevent STI prevalence. We offer free transport to those who wish to be circumcised but live in remote areas," said Taziva.
The other social soccer teams teams that took part in the games include Magura, Diamond, Zibwowa, Vhurumuku, Vhudzi, Lulu Rovers, Mushungwa, Chivamba, Chipfunde, Malemon, Rudhanda and Jerera. All the teams that participated received some monetary prizes.sport news
