    Murinye man gets 9 years for possessing pangolin

    MASVINGO RURAL - Matakuro Vandirai (26) of Tazviruva Village under Chief Murinye in Masvingo was sentenced nine years in prison after he was found in illegal possession of a live pangolin.
    Vandirai appeared before Magistrate Langton Ndokera facing charges of hunting and capturing a live pangolin without a licence or permit at Lake Mutirikwi.
    On August 8, 2016 at around 7am, detectives from Zvishavane received information to the effect that the accused person had a pangolin at Lake Mutirikwi and was looking for a buyer.
    The detectives proceeded to the scene and upon arrival they identified the accused person sitting by the side of the road holding a metal box with a pangolin inside it.
    The accused was asked to produce permit or license authorising his possession of the pangolin but he failed and he was subsequently arrested.
    The pangolin valued at $5 000 was recovered and was produced in court as exhibit.
    The accused was found guilty and sentenced to nine years imprisonment.
