    – There are serious considerations for Government to turn Masvingo Teachers' College into a secondary school teacher training institution for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), a Cabinet Minister has said.
The Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jonathan Moyo said this at the graduation ceremony held at the college last Friday.
"The availability of three science laboratories and three lecture rooms will find Masvingo Teachers' College in a good stead for conversion into secondary school training institution focusing on science and mathematics.
"Eventually the college will be expected to develop and train graduate teachers to teach 'A' level science and mathematics," he said.
The college saw a record 476 students walking away with diplomas at the institution's 32nd graduation ceremony held last Friday.
This is the biggest graduation since the college was established in 1981, the Principal Benson Mutambudzi told the Mirror.
"This year we have witnessed the biggest number of graduands since the establishment of the college and our aim is to surpass the number every year," he said.
The graduation was held under the theme 'Education for Self-Reliance and Sustainability'.
The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Professor Jonathan Moyo was the guest of honour.
Present at the graduation were, the Vice Chancellors from the University of Zimbabwe, Professor Levi Martin Nyagura, Great Zimbabwe University, Professor Rungano Zvobgo and Reformed Church University, Professor Wiseman Magwa.
At the occasion, Mutambudzi congratulated the grandaunts for attaining their goals. Among the 476 graduands, 379 were specialised in general course, of  which 280 female and 99 male while 97 were in the ECD course 88 female and nine male.
Seven students had distinctions in Agriculture, six in Art and Design, five in Home Economics and Music had two.
Professor Moyo congratulated the graduants for the success in their education.
He also said that teachers' colleges have to churn out 300 ECD grandaunts per year for the next five years to meet demand.
He further noted that there are considerations to convert Masvingo Teachers' College into secondary school teacher training institution for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
