    CIO murderer sentenced to 70 years in prison


    A Chiredzi man who shot and killed a Central Intelligence Officer based in Chiredzi and was sentenced to death for the crime has received 70 more years on 12 other crimes.
    Chiredzi Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu convicted him on new counts that include robberies.
    Clemence Mumanyi who last month refused to be put on trial in Chiredzi and made a scene in court after throwing a chair at prosecutor Moreblessing Rusere had his trial done in absentia.
    The court was told by prosecutor Moreblessing Rusere how Clemence Mumanyi and some of his accomplices who are still on the run committed various crimes which range from vehicle theft, robberies, unlawful possession of arms and attempted robberies.
    Various witnesses narrated the trauma they went through during the robberies.
    Magistrate Zuyu convicted Mumanyi on 12 counts and acquitted him on another.
    She gave him different sentences on the counts but when combined the years of imprisonment were 70 and the magistrate suspended 10 years leaving him with an effective sentence of 60.
