Chikwinya to open Zewu women’s conference

    GWERU –
The Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development Nyasha Chikwinya is going to open Zimbabwe Energy Workers Union (ZEWU) 4th Women's conference that will be held at Cutty Sark Hotel in Kariba from October 20-23 2016.
The theme of the Conference which will be attended by 110 delegates is investing in women towards total participation in trade unionism.
The women will be equipped with knowledge on women's rights and they will evaluate their position in the union and at work. The wing had a number of strategies and a five year plan which they came up with at the last conference, said Martin Chikuni who is the general secretary of Zewu.
In addition there will be an election to choose a new executive. The outgoing executive was headed by Joyce Masiya who is the chairperson and Zewu president Angeline Chitambo will also be attending the conference.
"This will be the 4th women's conferences and our guest of honor will be Minister Chikwinya who will give a speech to about 110 women representing all women union branches across the country," said Chikuni
Chikuni also said that the last women's conference was held in 2010 when the current executive was elected.
"The last women's conference was in 2010 when the women's wing elected the current executive so it means their term is over and there will be an election during this year's conference.
"This is an important conference for women because it's a platform where they discuss issues concerning them within the union and at their work places.
ZEWU women's conference is done after every five years after the union's national conference," said Chikuni.
