Beitbridge paedophile gets 4-years in jail

    - Rayson Tsvangirai Rushwaya (26) of Dulivhadzimu Beitbridge who appeared before Residential Magistrate Gloria Takundwa accused of abusing young girls has been found guilty and slapped with a four-year jail term.
It is the State case that on the first count, Rushwaya unlawfully took and cohabited with a 17-year old (name with held) in October 2015.
In the same month, Rushwaya and the minor had a disagreement and the minor attempted suicide before she went back to her parents who stay in Dulivhadzimu.
Rushwaya is said to have taken the minor for the second time in November 2015. They had a disagreement and Tsvangirai assulted the minor before chasing her from his house.
Upon arrival, the minor explained the case to her mother who then reported the matter to the Police.
The court heard that in February 2016, Rushwaya fell in love with another 17-year-old girl (name supplied) whom he cohabited with.
He sent one Jain Sebata to the minor's homestead for the lobola negotiations.
However, the minnor's mother told them that her daughter was under age, denied them permission to marry and took her away from Rushwaya.
In mitigation Rushwaya said he wanted to marry the minnor and was willing to pay all the damages so as to settle the case with the minor's family.
In her judgement Magistrate Takundwa found him guilty and proceeded to say it did not matter whether the minor was not forced to come to Rushwaya's home. It was still unlawful to take away the minor's right of staying with her guardian and also taking the minor as wife. and gave four years imprisonment of which two years were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
Two years will be effectively served.
