Beitbridge Fire Brigade to get new vehicle

    - Beitbridge Town Council will soon get a new vehicle, courtesy of a donation made by Operation Florian, a UK-based company.
The vehicle, a 1500-litre fire fighter should be delivered by September this year, according to the town secretary Loud Ramakgapola.
This is bound to make a huge impact on the council's fire fighting efficiency after it only operated with a 450-litre vehicle that failed to put out most fires that broke out in the town leading to serious losses of property.
"The town has been operating with a 450 litre fire vehicle. This is the reason why our fire brigade team is not capable of putting out a lot of fires that break out in the town," said Ramakgapola.
Recent failures to extinguish fires saw a pregnant woman getting burnt to ashes in August 2016. Another house (8-roomed) was also razed to the ground in the same month.
All efforts were in vain as most of the furniture was burnt to ashes. The Matebeleland Provincial Police spokesperson Ndebele has confirmed. The deceased woman is said to have been a petrol vendor who stored stored petrol in her room.
Council fire vehicle could not pullout the fire till the room and the woman got burnt leading to the death of the woman.
Ramakgapola said these incidents are so touching and feels for these families.
"I was touched as I heard of this incident, we are trying to maximise the service delivery in that department," he said.
