Beitbridge cop ‘assists’ cattle stealing from Musina

E - Constable Gwese of Nhwali Police Base is in court accused of assisting Ownias Ndou and Leonard Mangavha in stealing 27 herd of cattle from Kongo Farm in Musina.
It is the State case that on August 3, 2016 and at midnight, Ndou and Mangava who reside in Mangavha Village in headman Kohomela's area under chief Sitaudze in Beitbridge crossed the Limpopo River to South Africa.
They stole 27 cattle from Kongo farm which they drove to their homestead. On the same day, Ndou and Mangavha went for a cattle sale at Nhwali Sale Pens where Ndou bought 14 cattle and Mangavho bought 10.
These beasts were cleared by the police and the two were issued with movement of animal permits destined to the Cold Storage Company (CSC) abattoir in Bulawayo.
On August 5,the two drove the cattle from Nhwali to Swereki in Beitbridge.
State prosecutor Lloyd Mupfungidza told the court that 15 of the stolen cattle together with seven they bought in Nhwali were loaded into a hired truck and taken to CSC abattoir in Bulawayo on August 6.
Upon arrival, the authorities discoverd that the discription of the cattle on paper was different from the actual cattle thus, they asked the two to go back and clarify with the Police.
That is when they sought Constable Gwese's help who issued them with a re-clearence form and movement of animal permit with the description matching the stolen cattle.
Authorities at the CSC reported the case to Donnington Police Station who informed Beitbridge police and immediately teamed with Captain Toute of South Africa Musina Police and went to the abattoir for identification of the cattle. Fifteen of the 27 stolen cattle were recovered. The 27 cattle were valued at ZAR 244 000.
The three appeared before the residential magistrate Gloria Takundwa who remanded the case to September 1,2016 on $500 bail each.
