    Alheit High, Tapudzai Primary win Secretary Merit Awards

    – The names of the schools that have won the 2015 Secretary's Merit Award have just come out.
    Alheit Chingombe 2 High School of Gutu is the winner for the secondary schools' category while Tapudzai Primary School of Benzi Area in Zaka has scooped the primary schools category.
    Provincial Education Director (PED) Zedius Chitiga has confirmed the development.
    Alheit High School is a Reformed Church of Zimbabwe (RCZ) run school while Tapudzai Primary is a Zaka Rural District Council school.
    Chitiga said the criteria for giving the awards have various factors that are consideredd.
    The factors are school mission which is 5% , school governance 10%, curricular innovation and compliance 30%,  non-formal education activities 5%, leaner achievements 10%, child friendliness 15% ,quality assurance and performance management supervision,  infrastructural development  6% , infant education of primary schools only 9% and practical subjects for secondary schools only.
    He added that the awards are for both boarding and day schools and this is done to improve the education quality of the students.
    "This award is done every year and it is given for educational development, the award winners will be given the Secretary's Bell which shows a great achievement of the school and a cash prize ranging in US$5 000.
    "In 2014, Mutendi High and Marozva Primary both of Bikita District were the winners," he said.
    The dates of the awards will be announced since they have not been set yet.
