700 Gweru Diocese teachers go on retreat

    – More than 700 teachers from all the 23 Catholic Schools in Gweru Diocese gathered at Regina Mundi High School last week for a one day seminar to reflect on their work and tackle pertinent issues they meet on a day-today basis in the course of their work.
In particular, the teachers dealt with issues of child protection, becoming role models for the children, becoming efficient for delivery of results and preparing for final year-end examinations.
The seminar was facilitated by Fr Tresford Choto of the Satesian of Don Bosco Zambia who is based at all Saint, Kambuzuma Parish.
Hama high School head, Josheph Magomo who was in charge, said that every beginning of the term the Diocese recommend teachers to take time to recollect and reflect on their work and this time Bishop Xavier Munyongani asked for all the teachers to meet at one place and tackle the task together.
"Every beginning of the year all teachers are required to take time and reflect on their work. This time the Bishop of Gweru however asked that all the teachers should meet so that we all reflect as a family.
"We got lessons on child protection, how to handle our children at school and how to be role models to them because teachers are the ones who spend a lot of time with these children," said Magomo
He added that the seminar was a time to reorganize, reflect on what went well and what went wrong in the previous term and plan new strategies.
"We are reorganizing today because we are taking time to reflect on what went well and what went wrong in our last term so that we strategize," said Magomo
Fr Choto told teachers that teaching was a matter of the heart and education is like evangelism and with the matter of the heart one really need to be committed.
He called for good morals from teachers for them to be the right role models.
