    Wood Pickers scoops Chibuku Road to Fame


    - Wood Pickers band from Mashava are the provincial Chibuku Road to Fame winners after coming tops of 10 groups at the competition that was held at Huruyadzo Gardens in Chivi on Saturday.
    Wood Pickers band which performed the traditional music genre walked away with US$1000 prize money and the honors of representing the province at the inter-provincial competition scheduled for September 24 at Glamis Arena in Harare.
    The group was closely followed by Orchestra Kururama on second position and third was Afro Fact Band. The two walked away with $500 and $300 prize money respectively.
    "We are happy with the win; it is a great honor to represent the province in such a prestigious event," said Romeo Moyo who is a Wood Pickers band member.
    The judging criteria comprised of group co-ordination, dressing, stage behaviour and the maximum number of group members which is 7.
    Last year provincial winners Hwezhira Group and 2014 winners Orchestra Mufaro Chete were the guest groups at the event and treated the audience to well executed dance routines while singing some of their songs.
    Every group was given a maximum of 15 minutes to showcase their act and impress the judges and backing crowd at the competition.
    Chibuku Road to Fame is an annual event that is organised by the National Arts Council and sponsored by Delta Beverages through their Chibuku brand which aims at promoting local artistes.
    Delta officials who spoke to The Mirror were impressed with the response that the community was showing to their programs and urged the community to prepare for a Super Cup soccer tournament which they said will be commencing soon.entertainment news
