    Mozambican Poacher killed in Gonarezhou National Park

    – A suspected Mozambican poacher Samuel Mabuto Utui was last week shot dead in Gonarezhou during a shootout with game rangers and Support Unit officers.

    A Parks and Wildlife Authority official in Gonarezhou National Park also confirmed the incident. He said the poachers clashed with game rangers and ZRP support unit who were on a joint patrol in the national park and one of the poachers who had an AK-47 with a silencer was killed in the gunfire exchange while the other five managed to escape.
     "Rangers were on patrol about 40km from the Mozambican border when they came across suspected poachers who were heavily armed with AK47 rifles. Shooting ensued and one poacher Samuel Mabuto Utui was killed and others ran away while the rifle which had a silencer was recovered. The body of Utui was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital where it was kept for days because no one came forward to identify the body," said the official.
    Sources at Chiredzi Police Station said relatives of the deceased came on Sunday and identified the body. Police then started processing papers for the repatriation of the body to Mozambique for burial. local news
