Chief Musara donates cattle branding irons

    - Chief Musara born Boniface Musara has donated 15 cattle branding irons to his community in a bid to arrest the number of cattle that are being stolen from his area every year.
He made the donations during a cattle branding re-launch campaign that was held at Wendedzo Village in Masvingo Rural recently.
The move by Musara follows alarming figures where out of the 123 cattle stolen from Masvingo Central District. In 2015, 30 were from his area.
The occasion was attended by the Zimbabwe Republic Police, officers from the Veterinary and Registrar General's departments who are responsible for giving livestock owners branding certificates and the branding irons.
In addition to the branding irons, Musara also donated two cattle, six goats and over 40 t-shirts to members of his community. The cattle and goats were slaughtered and fed to the people who gathered for the occasion.
Speaking at the occasion, Musara pleaded with the community to welcome the branding method which has assisted other districts in reducing stock theft as one will be required to produce the branding certificate when selling or slaughtering livestock.
"Cattle branding is the way to go as it is effective in reducing stock theft, branding is a key method which is not expensive and the brand iron is not similar to any other iron , you can think of it as your national identity number," said Musara.
