    8 ecstatic gold panners kill Mandava resident


    – An innocent man from Mandava in Zvishavane was assaulted to death by eight gold panners in a case of mistaken identity.
    Edmore Maphosa (..) was allegedly hit with an axe, struck with an okapi knife and machetes and kicked with booted feet by suspected drunk gold panners who invaded his place  two weeks ago.
    Zvishavane magistrate Court was packed to the brim on Friday last week when touched residents turned out to hear the initial hearing of the case of the cold-blooded murder.
    The accused, Tawanda Shumba (21) of Mharauka in chief Negove in Mbrengwa, Pardon Ndhlovu (23) of Mabhonzo Village, Khumbulani Miyoba (31), Innocent Malunga (24) of Kofi Village under chief Masunda in Zvishavane and  two juveniles (16) and (15) who cannot be named for ethical reasons appeared before magistrate Shepherd Munjanja facing murder charges.
    It is the state case that on July 23 2016 at around 9pm at a house in the high residential density suburb of Mandava, the accused acting in concert and common purpose armed with machetes, axes, knives, logs and stones went on rampage beating people at Mare Night Club in Mandava township.
    One of the accused is said to have thrown hot amber in the face of a man whom he accused of stepping on one of his friends.
    One of the accused, Tawanda Shumba was allegedly beaten by unknown assailants over gold ore dispute.
    During the course of the rampage the accused proceeded to house number 134 in Mandava suspecting that one of the assailants had sought refuge there.
    The accused then met Maphosa at the house and struck him with an axe on the head. Shumba allegedly struck Maphosa with a log on the head before he was stabbed by the 16 year old with an Okapi knife.
