    ZAKA -
The Zaka District Agricultural Show bursts into life today (Thursday July 28, 2016) and runs for two days until the end of the day on Friday.
The show is a culmination of ward shows held throughout the district.
The Show will see the exhibition of mainly maize cobs, beans, door mates and puraphins.
The Mirror has established that there are 235 farmers who will be exhibiting at the show that will be held at Feri Grounds.
Farmers were trained on how to get high yield and how to keep livestock by the members of District Agritex Officer Paul Vhovha, Extension worker Rosemary Charuka, The Seed Company (SeedCo) representatives Godfree Magavu and Farm Supply.
Magavu encouraged farmers to grow 529 maize seed because it is resistant to drought and also urged the farmers to plant S301 maize seed that ripens after 60 days.
He also said that it is an advantage to grow yellow maize for food consumption because it has high rate of proteins (16%) than white maize.
"It is an advantage for you to grow yellow maize for food consumption or for commercial purpose especially to those who sell roasted maize cob because people are mostly attracted by its colour," said Magavu.agriculture news
