St Dominic Girls' High School of Goromonzi District came first in the 2016 Catholic Secondary Schools Association (CASSA) choral competitions that were held at St Peters' Kubatana High School in Highfields last week.
St Dominic, which was on position one last year, scored 689.5 points and beat 17 schools in the Archdiocese of Harare that participated in the competitions.
Sister Sarudzai Mutero, who is the deputy head of St Dominic said the school is proud of the choir that has remained dedicated and excelled in the competitions.
"I want to congratulate our choir for coming top again this year.  I urge them to keep up the good work. I also thank Tafadzwa Mlambo and Miss Chaleka, the choir coaches who worked hard for the girls to achieve this success," said Sister Mutero.
St Francis of Assisi High School of Chikomba District, which was also number one in last year's competitions, came second with 675 points.
The competitions were on the song, Mwari Ndimi Muzere Netsitsi, written by Hilary Matias.
Brother Aaron Mazhambe, the coordinator in the Harare Archdiocese education secretariat said all the schools appreciated the song and sang it in their unique way. He thanked the Harare Archdiocese education secretariat executive and all staff members who worked hard for the success of the competitions.
"The competition was stiff.  All schools sang very well. It was very difficult for our panel of judges to come up with the ranking. There was a great improvement in all the schools," said Br Mazhambe, who was also the master of ceremony at the competitions.
The competitions were graced by the archdiocese education secretariat secretary, Sister Claris Gowo, the Spiritual Director Father Joseph Dandiro, and the Vicar General Father Kennedy Muguti. Sisters, brothers and priests from different parishes of the archdiocese were present.
Monica Mureriwa, the Public Relations Officer of Catholic University was also present at the competitions.
These top four schools, St Dominic's, St Francis of Assisi (Chivhu), Monte Casino which came third and Holy Rosary on position four, qualify for the CASSA national competitions that will be held in Mutare Diocese in September 2016.
