    Serima High comes second in Gweru Diocese choir Competitions

    SHURUGWI
    - St Theresa Cathedral of Gweru has won the Roman Catholic Gweru Diocese Choir Competitions held at Ironsize  in Shurugwi on Saturday last week.
    The immaculately dressed choir beat 27 other parish and school choirs which competed for the honours.
    The other teams that got into top ten were Serima High School, St Theresa Mvuma number three, number four St Pauls Mkoba, number five St Micheals Gweru, St Johns Mbizo on position six, St Peters Mkoba was at number seven, at position eight Shungu High School, position nine and 10 went to St Josephs Zvishavane and Regina Mundi respectively.
    Other choirs which also participated includes Hama High School, Driefontein Mission, St Lukes Rugare, Chikwingwizha, Chaka Chirumhanzu, St Josephs Hama, St Theresa Thornhill and Loreto high School.
    The choirs competed on a new song 'Ivaiwo netsitsi sababa venyu vane tsitsi' which was composed by Juliet Mapfumo and Rudo Nhoti of Zvishavane Parish.
    Father Fredrick Nhakuza the spiritual director of sacred music in Gweru Diocese said that the competitions are done annually and this year they were done under the theme be merciful as your Father is merciful.
    "We do this every year as a Diocese, so this year we were running the competition under the theme be merciful as your Father is merciful. We therefore asked all our composers to compose a song with focus on the theme.
    "The purpose of these competition is to help our choirs to improve their singing in prayer and improve worshiping through prayer," said Ft Nhakuza
    Nhoti the song composer who also talked to The Mirror said that is was of great pleasure to have choirs competing for her song.
