PED to investigate Hwiru Primary over $156 000 bus

    - The Provincial Education Director for Masvingo, Zedius Chitiga will soon send an audit team to Hwiru Primary School in Gutu to investigate the procurement of a $156 000 school bus which parents have complained against.
Parents are alleging that the school head, John Takabvirwakare and the former School Development Committee are failing to produce documents for the purchase of the bus.
Chitiga said that he was going to send a team of investigators to Hwiru to get more details of what really transpired.
"The Ministry is going to send a team of investigators to Hwiru on a date yet to be announced to look thoroughly into the matter," said Chitiga.
When contacted for a comment, Takabvirwakare told The Mirror that he had nothing to discuss.
The issue surfaced after two meetings held by parents in May 2016 in which they demanded to know more about the new bus.
It is understood that the school paid $48 000 interest for the cost of the bus. The principal amount of $156 000 is not yet paid.
There are allegations that Takabvirwakare and members of the former SDC made secret trip to Harare last week to see the suppliers of the bus. Also included in the trip is Ward 34 councillor, Jepson Nemashakwe who is said to have left a council meeting in a huff in order to make the journey.
The SDC chairperson Russel Mudoro confirmed the developments and said that he heard through grape vine that Takabvirwakare, former SDC chair and councillor for Ward 34 travelled to Harare without his knowledge.
"The head told me that he was in Masvingo on the day that people said he went to Harare," said Mudoro.
Former SDC chair Maxwell Masiiwa said all documents for the purchase of the bus are at the school.
Parents who are paying $16 levy towards the bus have threatened to boycott paying school fees until the matter is resolved.
