    – Transport operators in Masvingo have come together to form Masvingo Taxis Association in a bid to bring order in the Central Business District which has become chaotic.
The Association is the brainchild of popular Reformed Church in Zimbabwe Varume Bhora co-ordinator David Masomere.
He says the aim is to bring order at pick up points which are haphazardly sprouting in the CBD.
"We came up with this association as a way of bringing order to the industry which has become characterised by unruly behaviour from touts and drivers as well," said Masomere who is also the inaugural chairman of the association.
He said the association also aims to protect the interests of taxi operators and stakeholders like the Police, VID, Council and National Traffic Safety Council.
"An association makes it easier for the Police and Council to identify those breaking the law. Those registered with us will carry our logo.
"We are going to ensure that all our members have route authority, pay operator's license and the Government benefits and commuters' safety and security is guaranteed through using registered taxis.
"The membership fee is only $5 and our rank marshals are identifiable by the bibs they will be putting on," said Masomere.
The association is deputised by Felix Mutizwa, the secretary is Preciuos Nduru, vice secretary is Bothwell Makumbe while Tawanda Chiramba is the treasurer.
Prominent taxi and kombi operator Edias Tsikai is the patron of the association.
