    Mpandawana applies for Gokwe TC parking penalties


    •    Traffic offences to attract US$100

    MPANDAWANA – Gutu Rural District Council has published a notice where it intends to adopt Gokwe Town Council by-laws.
    Mpandawana got town status recently.
    The notice entail that motorists who commit traffic offences will pay up to $100 for wrong parking as the cars will be towed away and offenders will be liable for clamping, tow away and storage fees.
    The notice which was placed by the chief executive officer, Alexander Mutembwa says the intention of the bylaws is to control the movement of traffic and orderliness within Mpandawana and in Gutu District.
     According to the notice published on July 15, 2016, Gutu RDC will if granted the green light to adopt Gokwe Town Council (Road Traffic and Other Offences By-Laws of 2011), also referred to as Statutory Instrument 65 of 2011 (Chapter 29:15).
    According to the notice motorists will pay $35 if their cars are clamped and $65 if they are towed away. The $65 is what is charged in the Central Business District while an offence committed outside the CBD will attract $65 plus mileage for every kilometre.
    Vehicles that are stored away after being impounded will attract storage fees of $10 a night if they are light vehicles, $15 a night if they are commuter omnibuses and $50 a night if they are heavy vehicles.
    Some of the offences that may attract such action are parking a vehicle without a valid parking disc, stopping a vehicle at a place other than a parking bay or stopping place, stopping a vehicle in such a way that its load overlaps out of a parking bay, parking in a bay where another vehicle is already parked, stopping a vehicle in a prohibited area, washing a vehicle in a parking area or prohibited area or stopping a vehicle in violation of a law or order.
    Mpandawana residents can inspect the bylaws at council offices in Mpandawana and those who have objections have up to August 13, 2016 to make objections.
