    Gweru employee in the President’s office jailed

    - Nkosiathi Magama who is employed in the President's office has been sentenced to 12 months in jail after he bashed and seriously injured a woman who was sweeping outside his bar in Gweru a few weeks ago.
    The complainant is a general worker at Gweru City Council and she suffered serious injuries following the assault.
    In his sentence Magistrate Tayengwa Chibanda suspended four months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.
    It is the State's case that Magama's wife Tabet Chikohora had a misunderstanding with a City Council employee on June 21,  2016  after the accused person's wife spilled rubbish onto the area which had already been swept by the complainant .
    The complainant then told the accused person's wife to pick up the rubbish and throw it into the bin.
     The accused person came out of the bar and started to shout at the complainant.
    The accused took a broom which was used by his wife and continued to sweep.
    The accused person then later started to assault the complainant with the broom once on the neck as well as once on the left arm.
    He further grabbed the complainant and pulled her into his bar and then hit her against the wall several times and also head butted the complainant three times on the face.
    Gracious Rongai prosecuted.
