    Gweru City Council nominated for award


    – Gweru City Council has been nominated among five local authorities that have made strides in the use of digital financial services to ensure effective and easypaying of rates by residents.
    Gweru City Council Acting Town Clerk Edgar Mwedzi revealed the nomination to The Mirror and said this nominee is very important to the local authority as it is a reflection of good work being done.
    "This is a very important nomination to the local authority, it reflects a lot of good work being done here. We have been nominated by Mtilikwe Financial Services which is based in Harare.
    "It is important in the sense that we have about 32 urban councils and about 60 rural councils so to be picked and short listed for an award out of so many it shows the good work that is being done at our local authority," said Mwedzi.
    According to a letter addressed to Gweru City Council, Mtilikwe Financial Services will be hosting Agent Banking and Digital Financial Services Conference on July 14, 2016 at Celebration Centre in Harare.
    This is where the local authorities nominated for the award will be announced and honoured.
    Gweru City Council was nominated among five local authorities in the Best Promoter Digital Financial Services Category.
    Mwedzi said that Gweru City Council has made quit an immense improvement on its paying systems and to being awarded is important.
    "We have developed electronically in our paying systems, for instance our residents pay their bills through either ecocash, wallet one and also swipe system. This means that paying bills is no longer a problem one can pay anyway anytime.
    "We are glad that our work as Gweru City council is being recognized and at the same time putting the city on the map", said Mwedzi.news
