    Guard helps prisoner to escape in the boot of car


    – A prisoner serving four cases of robbery, fraud and theft allegedly connived with a prison guard and was assisted to escape from Mutimurefu Prison bundled in the back of a Mazda Demio.
    Kudakwashe Nyashanu (32) of Tabunganidzwa Village under Chief Mukanganwi in Bikita was supposed to have completed his prison sentence in September next year will have to serve a further five years after Provincial Magistrate Langton Ndokera slapped him with a further five years in prison.
    Nyashanu escaped from prison in March this year and was re-arrested in Harare.
    On March 24, Nyashanu connived with Shephard Chinhara who is a prison officer at Mutimurefu for the latter to assist him to escape.
    Chinhara drove his Mazda Demio car into the prison premises and parked it close to a non runner lorry and left the doors unlocked and rear seat folded.
    The accused put on a blue work suit offered by Chinhara and got into the car using rear door and proceeded into in the boot of the car.
    Chinhara later came and drove the car out of the prison to a bus stop near Gutu turn off along Chiredzi-Harare road, popularly known as 'paRoy', and left the accused there.
    The accused was caught two weeks ago  in Harare.
    Fidelis Nyamukondiwa prosecuted.
