    Gokomere CPS holds prize giving day


    – Gokomere Central Primary School which emerged with the best grade seven results for November 2015 has held its Prize and Speech Giving Day.
    The event was held last Saturday where tens of students won prizes for excellence in different areas including academic and sports. Teachers were also awarded with prizes for outstanding performance.
    The event was graced by Masvingo Roman Catholic Diocese head, Bishop Michael Bhasera.
    The school which was established in 1923 made yet another record when 40 of its November 2015 candidates recorded 4 units at Grade 7.
    Also present at the function was Bondolfi Teachers' College Principal, Kumbirai Chitsama, Masvingo's provincial education director Zedias Chitiga and his deputy Slyvester Tererai, Gokomere High head, Stanley Mutsambiwa, other guest from Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and several school heads.
    Other dignitaries who attended the function were the Vicar General Walter Nyatsanza, Catholic education secretary Fr Raphael Zindova, Fr Richard Pundo and Gokomere CPS School executive committee.
     The school head Bernard Baya said he was happy with the performance of pupils at the school during the course of this year.
    This performance in all disciplines including academic and sports.
    "All our teams reached district finals and our soccer, volleyball, basketball, netball and handball reached provincial finals, with our chess reaching the national level," said Baya.
    "Whenever grade seven results come out I check for Gokomere CPS first,''said Chitiga.
    Some of the outstanding achievers who got awards at the event are Danai Mauswa, Godknows Chowe, Tinashe Kasambiya who got four units each in their Grade 7 tests. Elsie Charumbira was probably the best athelete, making it to the nationals.
    Tafara Makaya, a tennis player also made it to the nationals. Tafara Mutiwanyuka was adjudged the most improved player.education news
