    Couple assaults Lalapanzi mine manager over $35 wage

    - A couple which resides at Rippon B Farm, Lalapanzi in Gweru attacked and nearly killed a mine manager after an argument over an unpaid $35 wage.
    The case was heard before Mvuma Magistrate Vimbai Makora and the assaulted manager is Thomas Munyoro Guvamatanga (48) of Matambo, a manager at Mkaddesh Mine in Lalapanzi.
    Prosecutor Michael Kazomba told the court that on June 1, this year at around 9am and at Pat 45 North Sebakwe, Lalapanzi, the accused person Tichatonga Chidanyika's wife Precious Phiri claimed her wage amounting to $35 from the complainant who is the manager.
    Guvamatanga promised to pay Phiri's wage in two days' time but a misunderstanding arose and the accused person Phiri started assaulting the complainant using a wooden log.
    Her husband joined in and struck the complainant on the head thrice using that same wooden log which had been used by his wife and the complainant fell down.
    The complainant sustained head injuries. Phiri was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment and six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
    However, the husband defaulted the court hearing and was issued with a warrant of arrest.crime news
